Split Masoor Dal Recipe


100 gms washed and drained split masoor dal (red dal)

1 tsp. cumin seeds

1 tomato (chopped roughly)

2 cups hot water

1 tsp. chilli powder

1 tsp. turmeric

1 tbs. sunflower oil

Coriander to garnish

Salt to taste



  1. Heat up the oil in a saucepan and when it is hot add in the cumin seeds.
  2. When the cumin seeds start to splutter, add in the dal and stir.
  3. Now add in the hot water, tomato, turmeric, chilli powder and salt.
  4. Cover the saucepan and cook on simmer until the dal is cooked.
  5. Garnish with coriander.


Serve hot with rice, ghee and pickles.
